Fake Spider Hoodie: Sp5der Neck Tag, Fleece and Print

A fake spider hoodie is caught fastest by weight and origin. Sp5der lists 13oz to 23oz fleece, milled and sewn in the USA, at $200.

Sp5der runs no authentication service and keeps no code database. Its own shop publishes something more useful than either: the fabric weight in ounces, the print processes by name, the size run, and the price, on every product page. The Heavy Web Hoodie listing reads 13oz, 100% cotton fleece, a puff print and discharge print combination, a star print scattered on the front, and a web print on the back hood extending to the shoulders. Every card on this page holds a hoodie against that kind of published line. None of them needs a photograph of a copy beside it.

Sp5der Hoodie Lines: What Changes Between OG Web, Heavy Web and Overprint

The wordmark, the six size run and the $200 price hold across every Sp5der hoodie. The fabric weight, the graphic placement and the origin line change with the drop, so sort the hoodie by line before you measure anything.

The archive pieces draw the most copies, because the OG Web graphic is the one buyers picture when they picture the brand. The archive OG Web Hoodie page lists 23oz fleece, fabric milled in the USA, a puff and discharge print combination, and the OG SP5DER text with the web across the front. It also carries a line most labels leave out. Cracking and peeling of the puff print is possible, the brand says, on its own product page. A resale listing that admits to light puff cracking on an archive hoodie is describing a thing the brand warned about, not hiding a flaw.

The current range moved lighter and moved the graphic. Heavy Web puts the web on the back hood and shoulders and scatters stars across the front, so a chest web on a hoodie sold as Heavy Web is already wrong. The 55 University hoodies swap printing for a distressed applique with contrast stitching. The Overprint Zip Hoodie adds web embroidery on the pockets and metal grommets, which is the only current hoodie with hardware to check. The Wordmark, the Stencil and the Two Dots Above the 5

The cheapest verification on a Sp5der hoodie is a trademark filing, and reading it takes about ten seconds. King Spider LLC, the company behind the brand, holds federal registrations that describe the mark in words. Those words are a specification no counterfeiter reads.

The plain word mark came first: serial 88779566, filed on 30 January 2020 and registered on 5 October 2021, covering hoodies, sweatshirts, jackets and track suits in class 25. The logo followed. Its description at the USPTO is one sentence long: the letters and numbers SP5DER appearing in a spray painted, stencilled font, with two dots above the number 5. Serial 90662161, filed 21 April 2021, issued as registration 7049772 on 9 May 2023. Read the mark on your hoodie in six steps.

1. Six characters. S, P, 5, D, E, R. A hoodie printed SPIDER is not a variant, it is a different word from the one the brand registered.
2. The numeral is the third character. It replaces the i. A 5 dropped anywhere else in the word is a copy working from memory.
3. Cap height. The 5 is cut to the same height as the letters flanking it. A numeral that sits low or narrow was set in a font the printer had, not the font the brand uses.
4. Two dots above the 5. Two, evenly spaced, clear of the numeral. This is the single detail the registration spells out, and it is the one most often lost when a graphic is redrawn from a photograph.
5. Stencil breaks. A stencil font carries gaps in its strokes, because a stencil needs bridges. A solid, unbroken redraw of the same letters has smoothed out the thing the registration names.
6. Tight spacing. Both Legit Check and LegitGrails describe genuine lettering as thick and set close together, and copies as thin with too much air between characters. Their worked example is the word COLD reading as C O L D on a fake.

Fleece Weight, Print Method and Why Raised Ink Proves Nothing

Raised lettering on a Sp5der hoodie is not a fake tell, and treating it as one is the most common error in the guides. Legit Check’s Sp5der hoodie guide describes genuine print as flat, screen printed and not protruding from the fabric, with the copy showing thick, three dimensional letters. The brand’s own listings describe a puff print and discharge print combination on both the archive OG Web and the current Heavy Web. Both statements can hold at once.

Discharge print strips the dye out of the fibre instead of laying ink on top, so it sits level with the fleece and the weave shows through it. Puff print expands under heat and rises off the surface. A web hoodie carries both processes on different elements of one graphic. So the useful question is not whether ink is raised. It is whether the flat areas are genuinely flat, meaning discharged, or thin plastic pretending to be flat. Hold the graphic up to a window. A discharged area lets light through the weave. A plastisol copy blocks it in a solid sheet.

Weight is where the money shows, and it is the hardest thing on the garment to fake cheaply. Thirteen ounces per square yard is about 441 gsm, and 23 oz is about 780 gsm. Vovrs puts an ordinary hoodie at 250 to 300 gsm, which makes the current Sp5der fleece around half again heavier and the archive fleece more than double. Fleece is bought by the kilo. A factory selling copies at $45 delivered cannot buy it and still eat. Nobody publishes a finished garment weight, so the scale test on the card above is arithmetic, not a quoted figure. Weigh a hoodie you already own in the same size, then weigh this one.

Origin is the check most guides get backwards. A widely repeated buying guide states that authentic Sp5der is manufactured in Portugal or China, and that any other origin means a counterfeit. The brand’s archive product pages say fabric milled in the USA and made in the USA. Current 2026 pages name no country at all. So the origin line clears nothing on a Heavy Web hoodie, and it fails an archive OG Web that claims Portugal. Match the line to the model, or ignore it.

Where the Copies Are Sold and Who King Spider Has Sued

King Spider LLC has taken counterfeit sellers to federal court repeatedly, and the case names show where the copies live. The Southern District of New York docket carries King Spider against 884886 CH Store, against Putian, against Panda (Hong Kong) Technology and others. The 884886 case, 23-cv-3472, names Alibaba.com and AliExpress as the platforms the merchant defendants sold through, and the June 2024 opinion records eight of those defendants posting fresh infringing listings while the case was still running. In May 2024 the brand sued a domestic seller, Vasilegotkicks LLC, in the same court under case 1:24-cv-03499, over hoodies, bags and caps the complaint calls nearly indistinguishable from the real product.

Two things follow for a buyer. A listing on a large marketplace is not safer by default, because those are the platforms named in the filings. And sellers reappearing under new storefront names after a takedown is a documented pattern in this brand’s litigation rather than a worry someone invented. US Customs and Border Protection enforces the same registrations at the border, and wearing apparel sits among the categories it seizes every year.

The other trap is the search result itself. Searching for the official Sp5der store returns a dozen domains built from the brand name, all styled as the official shop. The brand’s own store is kingspider.co, operated by King Spider LLC, the registrant named on both trademarks. Any other domain claiming to be the official Sp5der store is claiming something the trademark record does not support, whatever the garments in its photographs look like. Where To Get Your Sp5der Hoodie Authenticated

Sp5der authenticates nothing, so the realistic choice is a marketplace that inspects before it ships or a purchase you can reverse. The brand offers no verification service, no code lookup and no written opinion on garments bought elsewhere. Three routes are left.

Human inspected marketplaces come first. GOAT and StockX both list Sp5der apparel, both index it by style code, and both put a person on the garment before it moves on. That intake catches the wordmark, the tag lettering, the print finish and the code. It cannot put your hoodie on your scale. Buying where returns exist is the second route, and for a $200 garment it is the practical form of protection. Order from a seller who accepts returns, then run the size range, the dot count, the scale and the loupe on delivery, inside the return window. A copy that survives a photograph rarely survives a kitchen scale.

Legitly is the pre-screen that comes before either. It reads your listing photographs for what a photograph can carry: the six characters of the wordmark, the dots above the 5, the spacing on the neck tag, the white of the size tag web, and whether the graphic reads as discharge or as plastic. It cannot weigh fleece, and it is not a certificate any marketplace will accept. Use it to decide which listings are worth the return window.

Verdict: Two Numbers Out of Range and You Walk

A size run that goes past 2XL or a wordmark with the wrong character count settles it alone. Both come from documents the brand controls: its own size selector and its own trademark registration. Neither depends on the garment being in your hands, and neither can be argued with.

Everything else needs a second failure before it means anything. A light hoodie could be a lighter drop. A flat graphic could be a discharge print doing its job. A missing origin line is normal on current pieces. A blue looking web on the size tag could be a warm bulb. Any one of those is a reason to run the next card, not a verdict. Two of them failing in the same direction, a 520 g size L with a chest web on a hoodie sold as Heavy Web, is a copy.

Rank the checks by what they cost a factory. Fleece at 441 gsm costs money by the kilo, so the scale fails first and fails hardest. Discharge printing needs the right chemistry and the right base fabric, so the window test fails second. Two dots above a 5 cost nothing to copy, once someone notices they are there, which is exactly why most copies still miss them. The neck tag, the size tag and the price cost the least of all and pass most often. That is the usual shape of a fake Sp5der hoodie: a convincing tag on fleece that weighs half what it should.
